01 / The beginning

A story carried
for years.

Fiction had been part of Steven's life since his early twenties, but real life repeatedly pushed the work backwards.

After a serious health event in 2024, Steven stopped treating the novel as something for later. He returned to the story he had been carrying for years and committed to finishing it.

That decision became Harbinger: The Prophet's Game, his debut novel and the opening case in the Sam Rourke thriller series.

02 / The work

Writing what he can see.

Steven writes scenes by seeing them first. Before a scene reaches the page, he considers where each person is standing, how the light enters, what the air smells of, and what sound might conceal.

Harbinger grew from that visual and sensory process: Chicago rain, railway thunder, police corridors, newsroom light, and a black feather linking murders that reach into wealth, influence, and the city's protected institutions.

“I write the scene I can see, then stay inside it long enough to notice what the characters have missed.”
